I am dismantling the idea of going “all in” on your acting career. When I say that I hate this term, I mean that I hate it. You hear it all the time, especially at the beginning of the year or after the industry picks up again after a hiatus. But what does it actually mean? We have been led to believe that we need to let acting consume our lives in order to succeed; that we have to take class after class, pay for headshot after headshot, attend workshop after workshop. But when will it be enough? If we don’t build a sustainable life for the coming decades, we will burn out in the end. We are already actors and we are already enough, so don’t sacrifice a fulfilling life just to impose a deadline on your dreams. What I say in this is my opinion only, but I’d love to know what you think when people say to go “all in” on acting.
